EMPLOYMENT
EMPLOYMENT OF RELATIVES
EFFECTIVE DATE: APRIL 23, 1996
SECTION IV - NO. 33.00


Purpose

To preclude the conflict of interests which may occur when members of the same family are employed by the University.

Applicability

This policy applies to all categories of employee and employment.

Definition

For purposes of this policy, the definition of an immediate family member is as follows:

Spouse, children, parents, brothers, sisters, or any other individual who resides in the employee's household or who is recognized by law as a dependent of the employee.

General Provisions

No immediate family members shall be employed in positions where their personal or familial interests could conflict with the interests of the University. Therefore no employee will be placed in a position where they will fall under the direct supervision or jurisdiction of an immediate family member.

This policy is not intended to preclude the employment of family members of Faculty, Administrators, or Professional staff into staff positions which are unrelated to positions held by the family member and are not under the supervision of the family member.
