Purpose
To ensure
that employees whose positions are reclassified are appropriately
compensated.
Applicability
This policy applies
to all full-time and part-time employees on regular appointments.
General
Provisions
Reclassification of
a position should occur whenever there is a significant change
in the duties and responsibilities associated with the position. A
job may be reclassified to an existing job class, or when more appropriate,
a new job classification will be created. If a new job classification
is created an evaluation will be carried out by the Human Resources
Office as described in Section [classification] of these policies.
If the incumbent meets
the qualifications for the reclassified position, under normal
circumstances, he or she will be retained in the position.
Step Assignment
An employee who is retained
in a position which is reclassified to a higher salary grade
will be assigned to a step in the new salary grade that results
in a pay increase at least equal to a one-step (3%) increase over
the employees previous salary.
An employee who is retained
in a position which is reclassified to a lower salary grade will
be assigned to the step in the new salary grade that is the same
as his or her current salary. If the incumbent's salary is higher than
the maximum step in the new, lower salary range, he or she will
continue to receive the same salary, but will not be eligible
for a salary increase until based upon modifications to the pay
plan the person's salary falls within the maximum range of the position.
