GENERAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
GIFTS AND GRATUITIES
EFFECTIVE DATE: APRIL 23, 1996
SECTION  II  -  16.00

Purpose

To state the University's position on the acceptance of gifts and gratuities by University employees.

Applicability

This policy applies to all University employees, regardless of employment category.

General Provisions

University employees shall not accept gifts, gratuities or loans from organizations, business concerns, or individuals with whom they have official relationships on business of the University. These limitations are not intended to prohibit the acceptance of articles of negligible value or which are distributed generally, nor to prohibit employees from accepting social courtesies which promote good public relations, nor to prohibit employees from obtaining loans from regular lending institutions. Employees should guard against relationships which might be construed as evidence of favoritism, coercion, unfair advantage or collusion.
