TIME AND ATTENDANCE
EXEMPT EMPLOYEES
EFFECTIVE DATE: APRIL 23, 1996
SECTION II -  NO. 8.00


Purpose

To define those employees who are exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Applicability

This policy applies to all salaried employees in the following categories:

  • TEACHING FACULTY
  • RESEARCH FACULTY
  • EXECUTIVE
  • ADMINISTRATIVE/MANAGERIAL
  • PROFESSIONAL

General Provisions

Employees in the above employment categories are exempt from the overtime and compensatory time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. As such they are not eligible for additional compensation for hours worked in excess of their regular work day.

This policy may be waived at times due to unusual circumstances at the discretion of the President.

Exempt employees who are required to work hours that are significantly in excess of the normal work day may from time to time be granted informal leave by their department head. This leave should be for periods of less than one day. It is understood that informal leave will not be granted on an hour-for-hour basis as compensation for additional hours worked.
