The University of the Virgin Islands is a Historically Black publicly supported land-grant institution. In addition, academic programs support our land grant designation by integrating instruction with research and community service. The Humanities and Social Sciences Division is seeking a candidate who will teach a minimum of 24 credit hours per academic year at the undergraduate level in the following position:

Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor of Spanish: Applicants should have a Masters Degree in Spanish. Candidates with a Doctorate are preferred.  The candidate must also demonstrate native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English, excellence in teaching and be a participant in active scholarship.  Teaching ability must facilitate maximum student proficiency and communicative skill through the Vistas program.  A minimum of two years college teaching experience is mandatory.  The successful candidate will teach up to the intermediate level and might assist with supervising part-time faculty.  All applicants must be able to accept employment in the United States at the time of offer.  Additional expectations of all faculty include participation in University committees and continued professional achievement. 

Employment will begin on August 13, 2008.

Rank and compensation will be based on academic preparation, teaching and practical experience. Benefits include a generous TIAA/CREFF or Virgin Islands Government Retirement Plan, as well as a comprehensive group medical and dental insurance plan.

If applicable, economy airfare to St. Thomas for the appointee and immediate family, and shipping allowance of up to $1,250 will be paid by the University upon presentation of receipts.
