The University of the Virgin Islands is a Historically Black publicly supported land-grant institution. Appointees must be able to work productively with students and colleagues of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds; serve on the University’s committees; and contribute to the development of the University’s Vision 2012.

 

The Science and Mathematics Division is seeking candidates for a one-year Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor who will teach 24 credits in graduate and/or undergraduate levels in the following position:

 

Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor of Biology:  A PhD in Biology is preferred, but candidates with a Masters degree and significant teaching experience will be considered at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level.  All areas of biology will be considered, but preference will be given to individuals with expertise in marine invertebrates, plant biology, or ecology.  The successful candidate will have strong commitment to project based learning, undergraduate research and general science education.  Applicants with experience and interest in general science education are especially encouraged to apply.  Teaching duties may include participation in general science courses, the core biology curriculum, and upper level courses in biology or marine biology.  Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level, adaptability and genuine interest in teaching are important assets.

 

Employment will begin on August 13, 2008.

 

Rank and compensation will be based on academic preparation, teaching and practical experience. Benefits include a generous TIAA/CREFF or Virgin Islands Government Retirement Plan, as well as a comprehensive group medical and dental insurance plan.

 

If applicable, a one-way economy airfare to St. Thomas for the appointee and immediate family, and shipping allowance of up to $1,250 will be paid by the University upon presentation of receipts.
