JOB TITLE:  Research Assistant Professor of Horticulture

ASSIGNMENT:          The successful candidate will manage the Horticulture program, take leadership in conducting field experiments, supervise program staff, develop research technologies, and conduct research on cultivar evaluations and cultural practices appropriate for small-scale vegetable farms in the Virgin Islands.  The candidate will also perform statistical analysis of data obtained from various research projects, publish results in peer-reviewed journals; will be responsible for presenting results of research studies at scientific meetings, will be expected to write research proposals to obtain extramural funding and perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

§         Ph. D in Horticulture with a concentration in vegetables and sustainable agriculture;

§         Must have a strong research background with research experience in tropical agriculture with emphasis on vegetable production;

§         Research experience should include cropping systems, micro-irrigation, cultivar evaluation and integrated pest management;

§         Knowledge of production economics, field plot techniques, experimental design and data analysis is essential;

§         Must possess a high degree of motivation, maturity, and the ability to serve cross-cultural public constituencies.

COMPENSATION:    The salary range is $49,984 to $55,474 for the administrative year.  Benefits include a generous TIAA/CREFF or the Virgin Islands Government Retirement Plan, as well as, a comprehensive group medical, dental, and life insurance program.

SHIPPING:                 If applicable, economy jet fare to St. Croix for appointee and immediate family and shipping allowance of up to $1,250 will be paid by the University upon presentation of receipts.
