ASSIGNMENT:
Under the
direction of the Assistant Director for the Agriculture and Natural
Resources (ANR) Program, the successful candidate will provide
advanced technical assistance to the community in the areas of
horticulture, micro-irrigation, sustainable agriculture, integrated
pest management, farm safety and other related areas. The candidate
will also work independently to apply scientific theories,
principles and methods to solve practical problems; plan and conduct
outreach programs to the community; prepare written monthly
accomplishment reports; write grant applications and reports;
research and write fact sheets, pamphlets, and articles on
agriculture and perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Master’s
degree in horticulture or related field;
-
Considerable
knowledge and experience in tropical fruits and vegetables,
sustainable agriculture, integrated pest management,
micro-irrigation, and other related areas;

Knowledge of
extension service policies and guidelines, federal grants and
University policies and procedures;

Ability to
apply principles to solve practical problems, write technical
reports/correspondence and make oral presentations to large
groups;
-
Excellent
communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
-
Ability to
work independently and cooperatively with others;
-
Must have a
high degree of motivation, maturity and the ability to serve a
diverse educational and cultural public constituency.
COMPENSATION:
The salary for
this position is $30,587 to $43,079 for the administrative year
depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include two
retirement plans and a group medical, dental, and life insurance
program.
TRAVEL AND
SHIPPING:
If applicable,
economy jet fare to St. Thomas for appointee and immediate family
and shipping allowance of up to $1,250 will be paid by the
University upon presentation of receipts.
