Position: Dean –
Education
Institution: University
of the Virgin Islands

The
Dean is the academic and administrative officer of the Division of
Education and reports directly to the Provost.
The Dean also maintains
relationships with the Board of Education, Virgin Islands Department
of Education and Federal agencies. Additional responsibilities
include but not limited to managing all personnel issues within the
Division, recruiting and hiring faculty in accordance with the
administrative and faculty policies of the university, travel
between both campuses, lead the Division’s effort towards
accreditation, develop collaborative relationships with external
community to support experiential and service learning related to
the curriculum, assist the Office of Access and Enrolment Services
in recruitment, coordinate student advising procedures, assist in
developing outreach programs, participate in university committees
and other faculty activities; coordinate program review of school
programs; responsibility for the professional development needs of
the faculty and department;, create and enact a division curriculum
review plan; establish vision and mission statements, goals and
objective that create a master plan for the Division that furthers
the University’s Strategic Plan 2006-2012; establish strong
relationships with constituents inside and outside of the
University; maintain a deep commitment to engagement with the
community; enhance and sustain an environment of academic excellence
including the initiative to develop innovative programs and recruit
and retain well-qualified students; develop and support new
undergraduate and graduate programs that contribute to the health
and well-being of society; provide sound fiscal leadership; develop
resources for faculty research initiatives and assist in faculty
efforts to secure external funding.
The successful candidate will also
be expected to work collaboratively with other Deans to foster cross
divisional partnerships, promote commitment to an education
curriculum based on the mission, vision and core values of the
University (www.uvi.edu).
Qualifications:
An earned doctorate, from an NCATE-approved
institution, in education or appropriate field; a strong record of
teaching, scholarship, and service to permit a faculty appointment
at the rank of associate or full professor; at least five (5) years
of experience as a faculty member in a comprehensive university,
successful experience in university community relations and distance
learning; K-12 teaching or other professional experience; successful
administrative experience at the departmental chair level or above;
experience with doctoral programs, and knowledgeable of NCATE and
other relevant accreditation standards. The position demands
demonstrated skills in communication, long-range planning, budgeting
and the ability to foster and support scholarly activity including
research and grant writing. The position also requires an
understanding of all education disciplines and current national
trends.
