The University of the Virgin Islands is a Historically Black publicly supported land-grant institution. In addition, academic programs support our land grant designation by integrating instruction with research and community service. Appointees must be able to work productively with students and colleagues of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds; serve on the University’s committees; and contribute to the development of the University’s Vision 2012.

 

The Science and Mathematics Division is seeking candidates who will teach a minimum of 24 credit hours per academic year at the undergraduate level in the following position:

 

Assistant or Associate Professor of Chemistry:  The Science and Math Division is seeking candidates with a Master’s degree or PhD. in Chemistry for a full time visiting tenure track position and Chemists holding a doctorate are encouraged to also apply for the tenure track position beginning Fall 2008.   All areas of chemistry will be considered, but preference will be given to individuals with expertise in physical chemistry or biochemistry. Experience in teaching science to non-science majors is desirable as the teaching duties may include general science in addition to chemistry courses.  Additional expectations of all faculty include participation in University committees and continued professional achievement. Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level, adaptability and genuine interest in teaching at the undergraduate level are important assets.

 

Employment will begin on January 7, 2008.

 

Rank and compensation will be based on academic preparation, teaching and practical experience. Benefits include a generous TIAA/CREFF or Virgin Islands Government Retirement Plan, as well as a comprehensive group medical and dental insurance plan.

 

If applicable, economy airfare to St. Thomas for the appointee and immediate family, and shipping allowance of up to $1,250 will be paid by the University upon presentation of receipts.
